The SKM400GB176D is a Semikron SEMITRANS 3 IGBT module in a half-bridge configuration, rated 1700 V and a few hundred amps in the proven 62 mm housing. It uses Semikron IGBT trench technology with a positive temperature coefficient on the saturation voltage, so paralleled devices share current naturally, and it has a high short-circuit capability that self-limits to about six times the nominal current. The inverse diodes are Semikron CAL fast-and-soft recovery types, which keep the switching clean and the EMI low. The insulated copper baseplate on a Direct Bonded Copper substrate gives good thermal spreading and a defined isolation, and the low-inductance internal layout reduces the turn-off overshoot the module sees. The half-bridge circuit is the building block of a three-phase inverter, so six of these modules form a complete 1700 V drive or converter stage for a 575 to 750 V AC system, a public-transport auxiliary supply, a wind converter or a large UPS.
