Semikron SEMITRANS IGBT Modules Overview

BeiLuo supplies genuine Semikron SEMITRANS IGBT modules, the proven 62 mm and 34 mm platform that sits at the heart of countless industrial power converters. SEMITRANS is one of the most widely adopted IGBT module designs in the industry, and for good reason: the half-bridge and chopper circuits, the insulated copper baseplate and the low-inductance internal layout make a compact, rugged and thermally efficient power stage. Semikron pairs robust IGBT chipsets with its own CAL fast-and-soft diodes, so the modules switch cleanly with low loss and tolerate the overload currents of a motor drive or a welder. The SKM family covers 600 V to 1700 V and a few hundred amps of rated current, in the familiar 62 mm SEMITRANS 3 and the smaller 34 mm SEMITRANS 2 housings, so a designer can scale a platform up or down without changing the electrical approach. Typical circuits are the half-bridge for a three-phase inverter, the chopper for a brake or boost stage and the common-emitter for a buck or boost converter, and the modules are used in AC and servo drives, UPS systems, welding equipment, solar and wind converters and power supplies. A SEMITRANS module bolts to a heatsink with a defined isolation and creepage, and it is normally driven by a matched Semikron SKYPER or SKHI gate driver that mounts close by. Every module BeiLuo ships is factory-traceable and includes an import declaration, a certificate of origin and a RoHS compliance file, and our FAE team helps with module selection, gate drive and thermal design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a SEMITRANS module used for?

SEMITRANS is a half-bridge or chopper IGBT module for the power stage of an industrial converter. It converts a DC bus into three-phase AC in a drive, forms a boost or brake chopper, or builds a rectifier front end, all from a compact, bolt-down module.

It is the workhorse of medium-power industrial electronics.

How do I choose the voltage class?

Start from the DC bus and the switching overshoot. A 380 to 480 V AC drive rectifies to roughly 560 to 680 V, so a 1200 V module gives the necessary margin, while a 690 V system moves to 1700 V and a lower-voltage supply can use 600 V. Never choose the class from the nominal voltage alone.

Our FAE team can confirm the class for your bus.

Do I need a matching gate driver?

Yes. A SEMITRANS module is normally driven by a matched Semikron driver such as a SKYPER or SKHI, which provides the isolation, the short-circuit protection and the soft shutdown the module needs. Using a matched driver keeps the gate loop short and the protection proven.

Ask us for a module and driver pairing.

Can BeiLuo help with thermal design?

Yes. Send your load current, switching frequency and ambient, and our FAE team will estimate the losses and check the heatsink against the module thermal resistance so the junction temperature stays within rating.

That check avoids a power stage that runs too hot.
